Earlier this month, we asked for your help to name the Lely cow on our Facebook page. We received more than 100 names to consider. We've reviewed them all and narrowed it down to the top three names.
A good indication that Lance and Jonna Schutte, owners of Jo-Lane Dairy in Monona, Iowa, are looking to the future is that each of their three children (aged five and under) already have their own registered dairy cow. “All bloodlines trace back to my parents’ farm. They started the tradition that each grandchild receives a heifer. The heifer born closest to the grandchild’s day of birth is the one they get,” Jonna said.

Leah started work with Fitzgerald Inc., her local Lely dealer, in December 2012, after graduating from Iowa State University with degrees in Dairy Science and Agriculture Education. She is now involved with Sales/Marketing and Technical Support at the center and serves as a FMS (Farm Management Support) advisor for Lely North America. This puts Leah in a position to work with a customer from sale to success as she was able to do on Jo-Lane Dairy in working with owners, Lance and Jonna Schutte. We asked her a few questions about her experience and role as an advisor.

Over the weekend, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel visited with Jeff and Jo Berg at Lane Creek Dairy Farm in La Crosse, Wisc. The Bergs use a Lely Astronaut A4 robotic milker to milk their 60 head of dairy cows. Jeff was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than two decades ago and the robotic milking machine has helped him continue to farm along with the support of his family.
